Wedding apron

Tomorrow I am off to Chicago, for a wedding this weekend. I made the short pleated apron from In Stitches as part of the wedding gift (which also included a set of wine charms and a dishsoap apron). I think the apron turned out pretty well, but I suspect the pocket is too small to hold anything.

I hope the bride likes it!

No-fill cupcakes

Dan and I went to an Oscar party yesterday, a perfect excuse to make cupcakes! I wanted to fill my favorite chocolate cupcake recipe with whipped cream, using my mechanical pastry bag. While it is wonderful for frosting, I was not so successful with filling. It seemed to push mostly air into the cupcake, while the whipped cream was compressed and pushed out the sides of the pump...very messy...I managed to get a bit of whipped cream into some of them, but one doesn't know which cupcake until it is bitten into, or cut in half...

A filled cupcake, but what about the others?

Most of the whipped cream seemed to get everywhere but inside the cupcakes....and eventually I gave up. The cupcakes were frosted with coffee buttercream and cacao nibs.

I forgot to ask the party guests if their cupcake had filling inside...not sure when (or if) I will try this again. The Oscar party was lots of fun, and although I did not win the Oscar ballot contest, I came in second! Yippee!

Little bits

I used leftovers from these bags to make a couple more dishsoap aprons.

I used Mariko's pattern for the green one, but it came out a bit small for the dishsoap I put it on the hand soap bottle...

My favorite citrus

I love pomelos. Over the weekend Dan got a humongous pomelo at the farmers market, just in time for the upcoming lunar new year celebration. Here it is next to a Meyer lemon and an Oro Blanco grapefruit, two other citrus fruits I love.

I don't think the picture accurately demonstrates just how big it is...I should have photographed it next to the beagle. It must be at least twice the size of her head.

Candy from Canada

Dan was in Whistler, British Columbia last week, purportedly for a work function...though skiing was involved...but the important thing is that he brought back lots of candy!

The peanut butter and dark chocolate Kit Kats were both delicious, and I am enjoying the Smarties today. I love their bright colors and thick outer candy shell, which I like to crunch down on slowly. While I do like my M&Ms, I wish the choice of both were available here!

The handles finally were sewn onto the baneful box, which went more smoothly than expected. I also made a zipper pouch with a bit of pretty Japanese fabric, and gifted both to my friend Cheya for her birthday. Even though I do not have a zipper foot for my sewing machine, zippers are far more manageable than Timtex!

And Arrow the beagle finally got to meet Minnie, Cheya and Rick's Boston Terrier. She is the cutest little puppy, a bundle full of energy. Next time I hope to get photos of the two pooches together!
