Bags & cakes

I finally finished the Amy Butler Downtown Purse this weekend, just in time for Joanne's birthday celebration...

Downtown purse
Lavender birthday bag

I am mostly pleased with the finished bag, it is just slightly lopsided and a bit floppy. Britex does not carry Timtex, so I used regular heavyweight sew-in interfacing...next time I will have to order Timtex or use a double thickness of interfacing. Also, it is a very wide bag! I thought the Nappy Bag was big, but then I figured a baby diaper bag is meant to carry lots of stuff...now I wonder if all of her designs are big...perhaps the bags are for very tall people?

And every birthday celebration needs cupcakes! I made lychee coconut cupcakes with ginger cream cheese frosting...

Lychee coconut cupcakes
Topped with candied ginger

Somehow I foolishly left out the coconut cream and realized the omission near the end of baking...so I decided to make chocolate cupcakes too, just in case...

Chocolate cupcakes
Topped with marscapone cream and cacao nibs

The lychee coconut cupcakes were not too bad, once frosted...and the chocolate cupcakes always seem to turn out moist and chocolatey, thankfully...though I had some trouble piping the marscapone cream...next time I will use my mechanical pastry bag, which is still in its box. It is time for me to learn how to use it!

cute bag! my sister made ab's messenger bag and said the same thing--the straps were so long she thought she needed to grow a couple of inches to wear it properly. hmmmm.

your food pics are yummy looking as always. marscapone cream? snarf!!!

man that bag turned out awesome and i have ben wanting that fabric you lined in so bad! hahah so naturally you have excellent taste!

the shop by me had a sample bag done of the bette shopper and it was FREAKISHLY huge! like GINORMOUS. but was very cool. i remember exclamining to the shop owner oh man i had no idea from the picture it was THAT BIG. so perhaps amy butler likes to carry a lot of stuff? or i am tall (5'11" so maybe i should try one?)

where's the hound?? i saw 2 beagles yesterday at renegade and one basset named bessie. apparently there's a walk to support bassett rescue going on somewhere int he city called THE WADDLE and 10,000 bassett hounds show up. can you imagine THAT MUCH HOUND?
