Independence Day

Somehow I managed to catch a bug in the SUMMER and have been sick with strep throat...yuck! So Dan and I celebrated Fourth of July at home. After reading The Omnivore's Dilemma, we are trying to be more aware of where our food comes we got a grass-fed steak that Dan barbequed, and I made warm corn salad with corn, green beans, onion and garlic from our box, and thyme from the backyard. Quite yummy!

And we were able to see the fireworks from our house! Here is a view of Bernal Hill from Chez Arrow...

Lovely power lines and everything!

Poor Arrow was terrified though, since after the city fireworks ended there were still plenty of booms throughout the night. Independence Day is not for the dogs!

:( Strep! I hope you feel better soon, Carol. Nice surprise running into you today at the Farmer's Market [near the Esther's German Bakery stand].

Your Indepence Day corny salad looks delicious.

And if you ever need a designer to get rid of neighborhood power lines in a digital photo, well, you know where to turn -- that's my bread and butter. Mmm! ... bread and butter ...

Get well soon!

awww samuel is terrified of fireworks too. she usually has to have a tranquilizer and Lucy she paces. So she gets 1/2 of a tranq. so they were in la-la land. i came in my sister's house the night before during a thunderstorm to find the basset had jumped up on my sister's bed, scared of the thunder. (she doesn't jump very high poor thing)
